Motorized Roller Shades

The best fabric for motorized roller shades depends on how much light, privacy, and glare control you need in the room.

• Light-filtering fabric: Softens daylight while keeping the room bright. Fabrics with around 70% opacity can also provide good privacy for everyday spaces.
• Blackout fabric: Better for bedrooms, nurseries, and media rooms where stronger light blocking is needed.
• Solar fabric: Helps reduce glare while preserving part of the outdoor view.

Choose the fabric based on the room’s main problem first, then match the color and style to your interior.

Step 1: Secure the Brackets. Decide on an inside or outside mount. Mark your screw holes, check that they are level, and screw the brackets into the wall or frame.

Step 2: Snap the Shade. Align the groove on the valance with your installed brackets, then push inward until it clicks securely into place.

The level of privacy depends on the fabric opacity you choose for your custom roller shades:

• Maximum Privacy: Blackout Roller Shades offer the highest level of privacy. Their opaque fabric completely blocks shadows and silhouettes from being seen from the outside, day or night.
• Balanced Privacy: Light Filtering Roller Shades provide excellent privacy by blurring views into your home while still allowing soft light to illuminate the room.
• Daytime Privacy: Solar Shades provide daytime privacy while keeping your view of the outdoors. However, they may allow visibility into the home at night when interior lights are on.

The way you measure depends on different mounting methods.

Inside Mount:

• Width: Measure the width of the window opening in three places (top, middle, and bottom). Use the smallest of these three measurements.
• Height: Measure the height in three places (left, center, and right). Use the longest measurement.

Outside Mount:

• Width: Measure the exact area you want the roller shade to cover. We usually add 3–6 inches to the window width to ensure maximum light coverage.
• Height: Measure from where you plan to install the top of the shade (the roller) down to the bottom rail to sit (usually the windowsill or base of the trim).
